Honey Baked Avocado, a delicious sweet treat filled with essential nutrients.

Now if I’m being real with you, everything you eat should be guilt free. Enjoy your meals and snacks regardless of their nutrient profile. No guilt needed! Signed, your friendly Registered Dietitian.

Anyway, sometimes you want to fill your sweet tooth while incorporating a nutrient dense food aka a healthy snack. Or.. your avocado is finally ripe and you have that short window to find the right avocado recipe. Either way, this Honey Baked Avocado is good choice.

You can split this treat with someone or enjoy this nutrient dense snack on your own.

Avocados

Let me just say, avocados are SO versatile. They can pretty much be incorporated into any meal or snack at any time of the day.

Historically, avocados are best known for containing “the good kind of fat.” They do, they are jam packed with omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Most people don’t consume enough omega 3s. Our body doesn’t make this fatty acid but needs it. The only way to assure adequate amounts of omega 3s is through regular intake of omega 3 rich food.

Not only that, avocados are one of my original Good Mood Foods, a food proven to put you in a better mood. Read about Good Mood Foods here.

Ingredients

Bonus! This Honey Baked Avocado only requires 4 ingredients! An avocado, maple syrup, honey, and salt. However, for a little less sweet, omit the maple syrup.

Avocado: Choose an almost ripe to ripe avocado. Check out this source for choosing the best avocado.

Honey Recommendations: Local when able. The only ingredient should be honey.

Maple Syrup Recommendations: 100% pure maple syrup.

Variations

I tried two variations of this sweet treat, air fried and baked. Both delicious! Both a guilt free snack. The air fried version takes a little less time.

The preparation for both recipes is the same.

  1. Rinse and dry your avocado.
  2. Slice in half and remove pit.
  3. Mix together 1 tbsp honey, 1 tsp maple syrup, and a small dash of salt.
  4. Drizzle mixture onto each half of the avocado.

Baked Avocado

Preheat oven to 350 degress

Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes

Air Fried Avocado

Preheat air fryer for 2 minutes at 350

Air fry at 350 for 5 minutes

Your Baked Avocado

The mixture will likely fill the hole in the avocado when baked. The best way to eat the baked avocado is use that indent of liquid as a dip!

Can the Honey Baked Avocado be made Ahead of Time?

Short answer-no.

I’d recommend preparing the baked avocado directly before eating. Therefore, there are no exact storage recommendations.

Avocado Storage

Avocados should be stored at room temperature until ripe. Once ripe, avocados should be refrigerated to preserve ripeness.

Some people say storing an avocado in water can preserve freshness and delay ripening. However, I haven’t tried this and can’t confirm.

Due to browning, it’s recommended not to slice an avocado until time of consumption.
